PM Care for Children Scheme

Name of the scheme: PM CARE FOR CHILDREN SCHEME 

Launch date: 29th May 2021 

Beneficiary: Children who have lost both the Parents or legal Guardian or Adoptive Parents or Surviving Parent to COVID-19 pandemic during the period starting from 11th March 2020 

Benefits: 

  • Rs 10 lakh for each child when he or she reaches 18 years of age. This corpus will be used to give a monthly financial support/ stipend form 18 years of age, for the next 5 years to take care of his or her personal requirements during the period of higher education and on reaching the age of 23 years, he or she will get the corpus amount as one lump-sum for personal and professional use.
  • Health insurance of 5 lakh rupees under the AYUSHMAN BHARAT SCHEME till the age of 18 years along with premium paid from the PM Cares Fund;
  • Free education for such children (Kendriya Vidyalaya or in a private school), including the cost of uniforms, textbooks and notebooks and assistance for loan in higher education, interest of which will be paid through PM cares fund; 

 

Implementing Agency: Women and Child Development Ministry 

Status of the scheme: 2600 children eligible for benefits under the scheme have been registered by the State Governments. Out of these, 418 applications have been approved by the District Magistrates.
